Fairytale scenery: Moritzburg Castle is not only an impressive backdrop for the Christmas fairy tale "Three hazelnuts for Cinderella", but has also been one of the triathlon hotspots in Saxony for many years. On June 10th and 11th, the Schloss-Triathlon Moritzburg will be in its 21st round. Registration is open from today.
It pays to be quick if you want to get a starting place. "The shorter distances in particular are still very popular even after the pandemic and were fully booked in a very short time in 2022," emphasizes Jens Kafka, who took over the helm as the new chief organizer in September 2021.
The big triathlon festival on the second weekend in June

The Moritzburg Castle Triathlon is a traditional race and takes place every year on the second weekend in June. The event is organized on a voluntary basis by the members of the Moritzburg Triathlon Club. A total of around 1800 triathletes start at different distances. Spectators also get their money's worth and can pass their time between cheering and culinary delights at the information and sales fair as part of the Moritzburg Castle Triathlon. The range of exhibitors includes the areas of clothing, shoes, sports medicine, travel, nutrition, health, sports literature and the presentation of other triathlon and running events.
From sprint triathlon to long distance
The special feature is the variety of distances offered: starting with the LandMAXX Jedermann Distance (750 m swimming, 20 km cycling, 5 km running) to the Sparkasse Meißen Olympic Distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling, 10 km running) and half distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling, 21 km running) up to the supreme discipline BarockMan long distance (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling, 42 km running) the organizer offers triathlon distances for beginners up to extreme athlete. Relay starters also get their money’s worth over the long and half distances. Each starts with the swimming discipline in the castle pond in Moritzburg. After the first change, the part of the competition takes place on the bike. In the last discipline, the triathletes run through the forests of Moritzburg, the former hunting ground of Augustus the Strong, before they are allowed to cross the finish line in front of the hundreds of spectators in front of Moritzburg Castle.
From January 2023, participants can register online for the popular triathlon event as follows:
- Thursday, January 5 from 6 p.m.: for long distance “Barockman”, duet, half distance and relays on June 11, 2023
- Thursday, January 19 from 6 p.m.: for Sparkasse Olympische and LandMAXX Jedermann Distance on June 12, 2023
