It goes up - all the way up. At the new cycling event "Kill the Hill" on May 6, 2023, the participants conquer the highest peak in Mallorca: the Puig Major. In contrast to the usual ascent, the highest point of which is the tunnel of the MA-10 pass road, this format actually takes you to the top of the 1446m high mountain.
Military site open
Normally, it is not possible to drive up from the MA-10 to the summit, as the area is a restricted military area - the prominent radar dome is visible even from afar. But at the request of the organizer, the commander in charge of the base agreed to open the area for this special event. Not even locals know the passage up to the highest point of the mountain.

Start from Pollenca
The start takes place at the military airfield near Port de Pollenca, from there it goes up on the route known to many, past the Lluc monastery, continue on the MA-10 towards the Gorg Blau & Cuber reservoirs, and then on to the junction on military territory up to Puig Major. The entire climb extends over 50 kilometers from Port de Pollenca.
No race
The "King of the Hill" event is not actually a bike race, but a group ride or RTF. Before departure, the field of participants will be divided into three performance groups, in which the journey will then be carried out together.
Free ride from the summit. Once the Puig Major has been climbed, the participants can then decide for themselves whether they want to ride the descent together again or, if they wish, continue on their own from here. The descent leads back along the same route, with the difference that the goal of the entire round is the Sporthotel Viva Blue in Playa de Muro, where the closing ceremony takes place in the evening.
